There’s a great quote that I see around everywhere – “Life is short, eat dessert first.”
It’s one of those things that always makes me nod in agreement. I mean, whose idea was it that we had to eat savoury before eating sweet? And these vegan desserts are desserts that non-vegans will love. Just try them.
What’s not to love about dessert? It’s usually smooth and creamy, and just slides down and fills all of those gaps that the main meal couldn’t. I’m a big fan of desserts and I’ve been lucky enough to make and test and re-make and re-test my favourite desserts in preparation for writing my ebook “The Little Book of Vegan Desserts“.
I had set aside a few days to make a number of the desserts for the sole purpose of photographing them for the book. On one of those days our doorbell rang and it was two Danish girls who were travelling along the east coast of Australia. One of them had sub-leased her room in Denmark to my daughter, Brianna, who is studying at The University of Copenhagen. Brianna had suggested that they come and see us when they were on the Gold Coast, although she had forgotten to mention it to us, and so they hesitantly rang our doorbell. Of course we invited them in. We had a beautiful afternoon chatting about their travels, teaching them about Australia and we learnt about Denmark.
They were so sweet and we invited them to stay for the night. They ended up staying for a few nights, which was lovely. And because I had a few desserts to photograph they offered to help by eating them. What a great exchange – we gave them a bed to sleep in, showers, breakfasts and dinners and in return they helped us out by eating desserts.
Funnily enough we have had many offers from others who want to come and get the same deal.
You don’t have to come and stay just to test these recipes. They are so simple that you could make them on your own. Check out the book on Amazon or the Shop page and give some of the recipes a go. I’d love to see your photos. You can post them below in the comments, or tag me on social media. I’m everywhere @sweetsandgreens.
