These are the easiest ever protein balls to make.
You need just 6 ingredients, one bowl and a wooden spoon. Oh, and about 20 minutes!
That’s it. The are super easy and last in the fridge for weeks. Well, they would if you don’t eat them all.
The recipe makes around 9 balls. So that’s a week’s worth for 1 person. Because, you know, some days you just have to eat 2.
You could easily double the recipe. I haven’t before. That would just be too many temptations in the fridge at once.
And because they are so easy to make, it doesn’t take long to whip up a batch.
The longest part would be making sure the coconut oil is melted. See? Super simple.
You could buy almond meal from the supermarket or you could make your own. If I make my own, I usually make up a big batch and store it in an airtight jar. Making your own only involves putting some almonds in a food processor and whizzing them up until they look like a coarse flour.
You could also mix up the almond meal with some linseeds and sunflower seeds. Or buy the pre-mixed LSA – linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds. The LSA mixture still gives a lovely texture, with just a few less nuts, and the benefit of sunflower seeds.
The other thing I love about this recipe is how easy it is to remember. You need 1 cup of almond meal and 1 tablespoon of the other ingredients. So 1 times 6 ingredients. You can do this. You can make a healthy snack!
If you really want to take these super easy protein balls to the next level, add one more ingredient. And that’s coconut. To roll them in. I usually roll them in coconut but didn’t want to push you over the edge with 7 ingredients!
I love them with Pure Place Cacao and Coconut Protein powder. It just makes sense because you’ve got the cacao and coconut flavours plus you get the added benefit of protein.
When I make them, in fact when I make anything that needs rolling in another ingredient, I roll all of the balls first. Because your hands do get messy. So roll all the balls, place them on a tray lined with baking paper, wash your hands and then roll them in the coconut.
Another quick tip – wet your hands lightly before rolling the balls. The ingredients are less likely to stick to your hands and more likely to form into a ball.
