I’m in limbo at the moment.
I love nothing better than cooking. I don’t really like the ‘what’s for dinner tonight?’ type cooking but I love it when I see a picture, hear a word or smell a fragrance and it sparks a recipe in my head. Then I head to the kitchen, make as much mess as possible and out comes something edible. It’s like one of those old school cartoons where all you see is arms and legs, occasionally a head and lots of smoke and dust and then there’s something recognisable. That’s kinda how my cooking is. An idea, lots of mess and then voila, a dish worth waiting for. But right now I have no kitchen.
I mean, I have no kitchen!
It was pulled out a week ago. I can’t really complain because I’m going to get a brand, spanking new fantabulous kitchen. This kitchen is going to be amazing. I might even start making video recipes. In my head the idea of video recipes in my brand new kitchen sounds so fabulous, but when the time comes and I get in front of a camera I’ll probably realise that it was the dumbest idea ever. Anyway, time will tell. I think I’ll need a haircut, and some styling, and new clothes … this could get even more expensive than the kitchen.
Anyway, enough about the future, today I’m hungry. And I need some food, and I need it to be easy, and I need it to only use a few ingredients and it must be raw and not need any elaborate cooking appliances or utensils. I think I have a wooden spoon, a couple of knives and some measuring cups. Oh, and I have tinned beans. You can never have too many beans. I mean, you can eat too many beans, but you can never have too many tins waiting in the cupboard.
The food that appeared in my head was lime and bean salsa. This is not a new recipe for me. It’s a side dish that I have been making for years. It is a great accompaniment to barbecues and picnics. It doesn’t need cooking, although it can be heated in the microwave, or a small saucepan – if you have one.
